I start this afternoon the practical medical training with Hélène, the doctor of the Base. The program of this first session is the treatment of wounds and the suture. Some pieces of meat collected on cows who were killed the day before constitute the training “material”, and are gashed with a lancet to simulate a wound to be sawn. Julien, Rémi, Yoann, Sébastien and I take place one after the other around the table, sterilized surgeon gloves on the hand, holding thread, needle-carrier, and other scissors required for the making of stitches. This is such a strange sawing shed occuring, lots of stitches being finally made on each of the pieces of meat. The training finally ends after a large hour.
