L’homme a grandit avec le feu. Primitif, il le fuyait, le vénérait, et vivait néanmoins des folies incendiaires de la nature. Puis il a appris à lui donner vie et mort, Créateur inspiré, il a acquis un pouvoir bénéfique et nourricier. Mais un pouvoir, une emprise, fragiles, pouvant se briser à tout instant. Alors, encore, il a fuit, et a lutté tout à la fois, dominant sa peur.

Dans le monde d’aujourd’hui, cet art de la guerre du feu n’est transmis qu’à un nombre finalement restreint d’initiés par rapport à l’ensemble de la population. Mais qu’en est-il pour une petite base perdue au bout du monde ? Alors la lutte ne devient plus l’affaire d’une « caste » spécifique à la société, mais un combat de la communauté toute entière, pour sa survie.

Il est alors indispensable que chacun sache précisément quel rôle tenir, quel poste occuper, en cas d’anéantissement subit du cessez-le-feu régissant cette guerre. Untel portera le matériel d’intervention, tel autre s’occupera de son installation, avant que les équipes d’attaque engagent le combat, sous le couvert des équipes de protection. Une bataille contre le feu est toujours âpre et dure, et requiert la plus parfaite synchronisation entre les différents bataillons prenant part à l’affrontement.

J’ai été pour ma part affecté au groupe « soutien », comme le sont tous les VCAT de la base. Lors de mes semaines d’astreinte sécurité, en cas d’alerte, je devrai toujours être prêt à gagner la caserne au plus vite, pour ensuite procéder à l’installation des manches et autres lances incendie derrière la pompe, à proximité du sinistre. Je pourrais par la suite être amené à procéder à un tir d’eau afin de freiner la progression du feu, en utilisant la lance de protection.

Afin d’être compétent pour la réalisation de ces tâches, j’ai reçu une formation ce matin pour apprendre à manier l’ensemble des matériels, y compris les lances incendie. Sous une pluie battante que ramenait le vent d’est, nous avons procédé à l’installation de l’ensemble des équipements pouvant être utilisés lors d’une intervention. Point positif de la pluie, recevoir quelques éclaboussures n’était alors qu’une bien maigre contrariété.

Humana kind grew up with fire. Primitive, men fled from it, venerated it, and lived thanks to the incendiary madness of nature. Then he learned how to give it life and death, inspired Creator, he acquired a beneficial and nutritive  power. But a fragile power and grip, which could be broken at any time. Then, again, he had to flee, and learnt to fight it by the same time, dominating his fear.

In our today’s world, this art of fire war is only transmitted to a finally restricted number of initiated people, compared to the overall of the population. But what’s the point for a small base lost in the far side of the world? Then the fight is no longer the business of a specific “cast” of the society, but a fight of the entire community, for its survival.

It is then necessary than anybody precisely knows his role, which post to take care of, in case of sudden breaking of the ceasefire ruling this war. One will carry the intervention material, one other will take care of its installation, before the declaration of the fight my the “attacking” teams, covered by the “protection teams”. A battle against fire is always harsh and hard, and requires the most perfect synchronisation betweens different battalions being part of the confrontation.

I was affected to the “sustain” group, as are all the VCAT on base. During my security obligations, in case of alert, I will have to always be ready to reach the casern as fast as possible, to proceed to the installation of water launchers after the pumps, close to the disaster place.

In order to be competent in the realisation of these tasks, I received a training this morning in order to learn how to use all the available material, including water launchers. Under a lashing rain carried by eastern wind, we have proceeded to the installation of all the equipments being possibly used during an intervention. The positive point of the rain was that receiving some splashes was finally such an insignificant contrariety.
